Former Purdue, NFL quarterback and broadcaster Len Dawson, 87, passed away Wednesday

Len Dawson died on Wednesday at the age of 87, according to his family. He had been in hospice care since August 12, 2022.
Best known as a quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, Len Dawson was the MVP of Super Bowl IV. A Pro Football Hall of Famer, Dawson’s 16 is retired by the Chiefs. He also played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns. He played his college football at Purdue, largely choosing to go there because of assistant coach Hank Stram, who later became his coach in Kansas City.

Following his retirement from the NFL, Len Dawson went into broadcasting. He stayed on with the Chiefs radio broadcast until 2017.

Len Dawson’s family released a statement following his death.
“With wife Linda at his side, it is with much sadness that we inform you of the passing of our beloved Len Dawson,” the family said in a statement to KMBC in Kansas City. “He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend. Len was always grateful and many times overwhelmed by the countless bonds he made during his football and broadcast careers.
“He loved Kansas City and no matter where his travels took him, he could not wait to return home.”
