Georgia RB Branson Robinson will enter transfer portal

Chatter that Georgia might try and pick up a running back in the transfer portal started last week and we now know why. Per On3’s Hayes Fawcett, the Bulldogs are losing fourth-year junior Branson Robinson to the transfer portal. He has two years to play two.

The Mississippi native has been hit hard by injuries over the past two seasons. He missed all of 2023 after suffering a torn patella tendon. Prior to that injury he missed the spring game with a broken foot.

After getting back on the field to start the 2024 season, Robinson suffered a sprained MCL in that surgically-repaired knee. Then, when he was trying to recover from that, suffered a torn meniscus and PCL that caused him to miss the College Football Playoff and 2024 spring drills.

Robinson saw action in each of the first six games of the 2024 season before going down with injury. He had 25 carries for 73 yards and three touchdowns. He suffered the injury on a catch and run against Mississippi State.

The former four-star tailback came to Athens with a ton of promise and put it on display soon after enrolling. Per the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average of all four websites that publish recruiting rankings, Robinson was the nation’s No. 73 overall prospect and No. 2 running back. He was also the No. 1 player in Mississippi.

As a freshman he carried the football 68 times for 330 yards and three touchdowns. He had double-digit carries just once that season but it was his best game, racking up 98 yards and touchdown on 12 carries. Robinson also had seven totes for 42 yards and two touchdowns as Georgia blasted TCU in the 2022 National Championship game by a score of 65-7.

With Robinson sidelined this spring, Georgia leaned on Nate Frazier, who is projected as the team’s feature tailback in 2025. He also watched as true freshman Bo Walker had a standout spring and redshirt freshman Chauncey Bowens played well in the G-Day game.
