Jaire Alexander contract includes no guarantees after year one

Cornerback Jaire Alexander was the latest NFL player to get paid, cashing in on a contract extension with the Green Bay Packers. The full term of the deal has been released, with Alexander getting a defensive back record $30 million signing bonus.
While setting a record is nice, that’s the only guaranteed money Alexander is promised throughout the duration of his contract. Green Bay will pay a hefty amount of cash during the first year and then none over the remaining four seasons.
Everything else will have to be earned from bonuses Whether it’s from being on the roster, making the Pro Bowl, or participating in offseason workouts — none of it will be guaranteed.
This is a trend the Packers have followed throughout the duration of their franchise. Whenever it comes to paying non-quarterback players, they will not offer a ton of guaranteed money outside of the first year. Only one other team in the NFL follows the same strategy.
“Only the signing bonus is guaranteed,” Pro Football Talk said. “The Packers continue to refuse to fully guarantee money beyond the first year of a veteran, non-quarterback contract. Only the Bengals do the same. The Steelers broke that precedent last year with T.J. Watt‘s contract.”
Either way, Alexander is set to be in Green Bay throughout the 2026 season. Being one of the best corners in the league, he will be hoping to get back onto the field fully healthy this season. The Packers are in a Super Bowl or bust phase and having their newly paid cornerback contributing will vastly improve their defense.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the former Louisville star is finalizing a monstrous contract extension with the historic franchise.
“Packers and Pro-Bowl CB Jaire Alexander are finalizing a 4-year, $84 million contract extension, per source,” tweeted Schefter. “Deal includes $31 million in 2022 – a DB record of $30 million in signing bonus. Alexander will receive $42.5M by March. @JohnThornton of @RocNationSports confirmed deal.”
Continuing, Schefter put the terms of the deal into perspective, revealing the Packers identified Alexander as one of their core, future stars. They’re showing him that with the financials, as Alexander’s new deal sets a new high mark for defensive backs.
“Jaire Alexander’s new deal averages $21 million per year, a new mark for DBs,” tweeted Schefter. “It ties him to Green Bay through 2026 season. Alexader broke a bone in his shoulder in week four last year, and played only eight plays in playoffs. Packers still identified him as a core young player.”
