Maximizing the opportunity

Determined to maximize the opportunity, quarterback Drew Allar and the seniors who set in motion Penn State’s opportunities for a national championship in 2025 with their return have insisted on an intentional mindset permeating the team.

“I think we all came back for a reason. Everybody has different personal goals, and I think they all wanted one more go at it together,” said Allar to BWI last month. “We have a lot of leaders on both sides of the ball and with special teams. So I think we’re doing a great job of driving everybody in our class to push themselves to get to that new level that they can reach, and also bringing the young guys along, because we have a lot of talented young guys in our program that are either going into their second year or either mid-year or just came in the summer.

“It’s just about showing them the way, but also, we didn’t just come back just to come back. We have to be working on a different level. We have to be intentional about what we’re doing. I think we’re doing a great job of that so far. But now is where really our money’s made in the summer. We’re in the middle of the summer, it’s easy to be excited and work hard the first two weeks of summer, but weeks four through six are the toughest just because your body doesn’t feel the same as it did going into the summer. It’s just pushing through that and finding the way to get better at the same time. I think we’re doing a great job of that.”

Penn State builds toward 2025

Eight weeks of intensive work building up to the start of preseason camp, the days are now melting away toward the kickoff of the Penn State 2025 season. Next up, Drew Allar, Nick Dawkins, and Zakee Wheatley will join Franklin in Las Vegas for Big Ten Media Days on July 22, 23, and 24. On the 25th, Happy Valley United’s third annual, marquee “We Are At the Shore” is set to fundraise the Nittany Lions’ NIL efforts.

And, the crescendo arrives finally on July 30 when the program convenes for the start of preseason camp. A month later, the Nittany Lions will take on Nevada at a work-in-progress Beaver Stadium.
