WATCH: Jalen Hurts makes stunning Alabama football history with first-quarter Super Bowl touchdown

With his rushing touchdown to open scoring in Super Bowl LVII, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts became the first Alabama player to score in the big game. Hurts scrambled for a one-yard score to put the Eagles up early and became the first former Crimson Tide player to rush or receive a touchdown in the NFL championship.
Former NFL champion quarterbacks Ken Stabler and Bart Starr had thrown touchdowns in the Super Bowl prior, but Hurts is the only one in school history to cross the plane of the end zone with the ball.
Jalen Hurts makes Alabama history in Super Bowl
Hurts’ immense success in his second NFL season was one of the biggest storylines leading up to the game, and his unusual path to the professional ranks after being replaced by Tua Tagovailoa in the NCAA Championship Game was talked about plenty of times on game day itself. His ability to persevere through the adversity was frequently pointed to as proof of how he managed to lead the Crimson Tide to a title appearance in the first place.
Hurts continued to impress in the first half with another touchdown score on a deep pass to A.J. Brown, but a fumble by Hurts returned for a defensive touchdown kept the game tied at 14 as the second quarter continued.

Chiefs win Super Bowl LVII
Super Bowl LVII delivered on the hype for fans as the Chiefs took their second championship under Patrick Mahomes by a field goal. Kansas City benefitted from a late penalty for defensive holding by the Eagles to allow them to run the clock down before attempting the game-winning field goal for a 38-35 lead.
Philadelphia was left with only eight seconds on the clock after the drive and a Hail Mary pass attempt by Jalen Hurts ended up well short of the end zone as time expired. Despite scoring four touchdowns on the night — with three rushing scores — Hurts fell to a team for just the second time this season after an incredible second-year campaign.
