The Denver Broncos are expected to hire LSU defensive line coach Jamar Cain as a pass rush specialist, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz.

“The Denver Broncos are expected to hire LSU defensive line coach Jamar Cain as a pass rush specialist, sources tell On3 Sports,” Zenitz wrote on Twitter. “Before LSU, Cain worked at Oklahoma, where he coached players such as Broncos 2022 second-round pick Nik Bonitto.”

Based on where he’s been and who he’s coached, Cain looks like a logical addition to the Broncos staff.

Cain began his coaching career in 2004 at Sacramento City College, his former stomping grounds. He finished up his playing days at New Mexico State in 2002 after a transfer.

Cain had a variety of assistant coaching roles on the defensive line through 2019 season with Sacramento, Ohio, Missouri State, Cal Poly, Wyoming, North Dakota State, Fresno State and Arizona State.

In 2020, Cain was hired by Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma and coached outside linebackers and defensive ends for two years until going back to defensive line with LSU in 2022. Cain won two FCS National Championships while with North Dakota State.

The Denver Broncos hired Sean Payton out of a brief retirement as the team’s new head coach. Cain will work under defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.

Brian Kelly’s main focus in LSU offseason

It was a busy offseason for head coach Brian Kelly. Now he’ll have to deal with the loss of a staff member.

But there are big expectations this fall for the Tigers.

“Obviously, as you can imagine, that December period was like juggling, you know, three things at once,” Kelly said. “You wanted to get your signing period complete with your freshmen, then you had the transfer portal. Obviously, that was very important. And you had to prepare your football team, certainly, for your bowl games, or playoffs, or conference championships, whatever they may be.

“Once we’re able to get through all that, the focus really then became ’24s, ’25s. And then, when your team got back on campus, certainly your focus became your football team that was here. So, we’ve been able to shift the gears and now tomorrow, we start our first spring practice. You can imagine ’24s, ’25s, Junior Days, trying to get ahead of that and then now, really focused on the guys that are on campus.”
