After former Texas A&M lineman Kenyon Green was selected by the Houston Texans in the 2022 NFL Draft, coach Jimbo Fisher spoke highly about Green’s talent. Houston selected the standout former five-star recruit with the 15th overall pick of the draft, and Fisher stated that Green’s abilities basically guarantee him success at the NFL level.

Jimbo Fisher on Kenyon Green to the Texans

Fisher was invited to speak at a luncheon hosted by The Touchdown Club of Houston — an organization promoting fellowship through football — and fielded questions from the media before his speaking engagement. One of the questions Fisher was asked was about the latest Houston Texans rookie from the Aggies, and if he had any comments about the draft pick. Fisher joked that he could talk about Green for longer than anyone wanted to listen.

“You got an hour? I joke, but like I said before — One, you have a physical guy who’s 6’4″, 325 pounds, and he can play guard or tackle because he has an 83-inch wing span,” said Fisher. “Which is like most tackles, guys who are 6’6″, 6’7”. A lot of guys block you, but he can move the big guys and he’s athletic enough to block the skill guys and that’s a rare combination. And plus he has extra arm length and big hands — when he gets his hands on you, you may beat him and then all of a sudden he gets that last push to protect and things.

“All the intangibles you talk about — character, toughness, team, winning, sacrifice, play banged up, play bruised up — all of the things. Intelligence. And you combine that with great athletic ability, you have a great player. I mean this, I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t have an unbelievable career in pro football. I think the sky’s the limit for him.”

Green is expected to play guard at the next level but has experience across the entire offensive line. With some injuries occurring for Texas A&M last season, he played at every position except center and eventually won the team’s Offensive MVP award. Also named an AP first-team All-American, Green will bring versatility to Houston.

Green was a top-rated recruit coming out of high school as well. According to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting services, he was the top interior offensive lineman in the country and No. 1 in his home state of Texas. He was a five-star prospect and No. 9 overall in the country.
