Joe Burrow is officially back. Today, it was announced the former first overall pick will play in the Cincinnati Bengals’ preseason finale, per Bengals head coach Zac Taylor.

“Joe Burrow will play a limited number of snaps in the final preseason game this Sunday,” Taylor stated. “We’ll be smart with what we do.”

Furthermore, Taylor indicated that he believes it’ll be a positive for Burrow to see live action prior to his regular season return. While the safer course of action would be to keep the former LSU Tigers quarterback on the sidelines, the Bengals believe in this course of action.

Last November, Burrow’s rookie season was cut short due to suffering a devastating knee injury. While the former Heisman Trophy winner has been present throughout training camp, preseason action represents another step in his comeback.

Ja’Marr Chase believes his chemistry with Joe Burrow carries over

This offseason, the Bengals reunited Burrow with his former LSU teammate, Ja’Marr Chase. Prior to taking the field together officially for the first time in the NFL, Chase stated he believes his chemistry with Burrow carries over from LSU.

“I would probably say we never lost it,” Chase said, via Keith Jenkins of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “Just a little communication with me and him if I might mess up and he’ll tell me what’s going on, tell me how he wants it, tell me what I see on the play so we’ll talk about it, correct it and that’s how it’s always been.”

The duo was one of the most productive in college football history, setting records on their way to a victory in the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship. Burrow had arguably the greatest season of any quarterback in college football history, and Chase was his go-to target.

To illustrate, Burrow passed for 5,671 yards and 60 touchdowns. In addition, Chase tallied 84 receptions for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns. The offensive duo led LSU to an undefeated season in the process.

‘We’re ready to go.’

While reports surfaced that Burrow looked timid at the beginning of training camp, he’s come into his own over the course of the summer. Earlier this month, the Bengals quarterback quelled all doubts.

“I didn’t really expect it to be that way, but the first week there was a lot on my mind,” Burrow told NFL Network when asked about the start of training camp. “You know I’ve always been pretty good in the pocket. It was tough to decipher who was who in the pocket, but then one day it just kinda clicked back. I’m feeling great back in the pocket now.

“No hesitation, nothing. We’re ready to go.”

Evidently, Zac Taylor shares that sentiment. This Sunday, Joe Burrow makes his return to the Cincinnati Bengals.
