The Miami Dolphins made a huge move regarding their young quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa. Today, the team placed the former Alabama Crimson Tide star on injured reserve.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news today on Twitter.

“Sources: The Dolphins are placing QB Tua Tagovailoa on Injured Reserve, meaning he’ll miss three games,” tweeted Rapoport. “The hope is he returns from his broken ribs at that point. But it’s Jacoby Brissett’s show for the next three games.”

Originally, Tagovailoa went down with the injury early last weekend against the Buffalo Bills. While the Dolphins got shutout afterwards, their biggest loss from last Sunday was their quarterback.

Since the end of his college career, Tagovailoa has been snakebitten by injuries. As you can see, his broken ribs are another in a long list of injuries suffered by the quarterback.

In Tagovailoa’s stead, Rapoport reports that Dolphins back-up quarterback Jacoby Brissett will be elevated. Last week, Brissett was 24 for 40, passing for 140 yards and an interception in Tagovailoa’s relief.

Tagovailoa took a shot to the rib area from AJ Epenesa on Sunday and was reportedly in a lot of pain after the game. He tried to return, but the staff would not let him. He had gone 1-for-4 with 13 yards at that point, and he had already been sacked twice.

Prior to making the decision to place him on injured reserve, Dolphins head coach Brian Flores offered positivity when speaking about his quarterback.

“He’s getting a little better every day,” Flores said Friday, via Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “We’re kind of in this day-to-day space and we’ll have a little bit more time to make a decision, to gather some more information.”

Evidently, more information came to light, and now Tagovailoa will miss at least the next three games for the Miami Dolphins.
