For the first time in a long time, there’s some excitement in Florham Park, New Jersey — the Jets are about to takeoff. On Wednesday, one of their building blocks officially signed on for the ride, as Adam Schefter of ESPN revealed former Ohio State star wide receiver Garrett Wilson agreed to his rookie contract with New York.

“Jets reached agreement today with the 10th overall pick Garrett Wilson on a four-year, fully-guaranteed $20.55 million deal, per source,” tweeted Schefter. “Jets now have all three of their first-round picks under contract on May 18.”

Moreover, the Jets drafted Wilson to be the go-to wide receiver for his quarterback — former BYU star Zach Wilson. The duo shares a surname, and now they’ll share the green and white, hoping to bring success back to the embattled franchise.

Continuing, the star pass-catcher began his collegiate career in 2019, hauling in 30 receptions for 432 yards and five touchdowns as a freshman at Ohio State. He then caught 43 passes for 723 yards and six touchdowns in 2020, also adding two rushes for 67 yards. Last season, Wilson caught 70 passes for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns, adding four rushing attempts for 76 yards and one more touchdown.

It was always in the cards for the former Ohio State star, as per the On3 Consensus, Wilson — an Austin, Texas native — was ranked as the No. 2 wide receiver in the 2019 recruiting class and the No. 19 player overall in the country. He was rated five-stars, and lived up to his billing.

Now, Garrett Wilson is ready to begin his NFL career. The ink is drying and his jersey is flying off the shelves — the Jets have their young star signed.

Jets GM Joe Douglas explains what stood out about Garrett Wilson

Furthermore, the New York Jets wasted no time to add a wide receiver to their offense in the 2022 NFL Draft, selecting former Ohio State star Garrett Wilson as the No. 10 overall pick. Afterwards, Jets general manager Joe Douglas discussed what Wilson brings to the table.

Wilson had quite a career at Ohio State, hauling in 143 receptions for 2,213 yards and 23 touchdowns during his four years in Columbus. He’ll take those skills to New York to pair up with Zach Wilson, and Douglas sounded very excited about that idea.

“Garrett brings a lot,” Douglas told Rece Davis on ESPN. “Excited to add him to the team. His route-running ability, you feel like he can separate … as well as anyone in the league. His ball skills, he can go up and elevate to get the ball. Run after catch. He brings a lot of different dimensions to our passing game.

“Again, get to add him to a room that has Corey Davis, that has Braxton Berrios, that has Elijah Moore, that has Denzel Mims. [He’s going to] have a great opportunity to compete in that room.”
