NFL free agency: Contract details emerge on Darius Slay signing with Steelers

Darius Slay is joining the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2025 season, and the contract details have been released. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Steelers and Slay have agreed to a one-year, fully-guaranteed $10 million deal. Schefter also said the deal was negotiated by Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey.

Slay joins the Steelers after helping the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl this past season. It was reported last week that the Eagles will release Slay once the new league year begins. Philadelphia is expected to make a post-June 1 release, meaning the team will spread his $13.7 million in dead money over two seasons, per Pro Football Talk.

Darius Slay spent the last five seasons with the Eagles and had a memorable run. Along with winning a Super Bowl, the 34-year-old cornerback finished 13 passes defended, one forced fumble, a fumble recovery and 49 tackles.

Darius Slay was a team captain for the Eagles

In January, Slay talked about mentoring the young cornerback on the roster since he was a team captain. “It’s a natural thing. I’m a natural dude, so I like to always involve myself around the young guys, definitely in my position,” Slay said, per the Eagles’ official website. “I know how hard it is to play this position, so I always try to make the situation easier for them. I let them know that, ‘Hey man, stuff is going to happen,’ but the first thing I like to do is always have a bond with everybody. We have a great, great bond, all three of us. You see how they’re my kids sitting beside me. I wanted to move my locker in between them so I could hug them both at the same time.”

Slay began his NFL career in 2013, as he was selected by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the draft. He spent seven seasons in Detroit before being traded to the Eagles in March 2020. In his career, Slay has been named to the Pro Bowl six times and was selected to the All-Pro First Team in 2017 after recording eight interceptions and 26 passes defended.
