Park Avenue Shooting: Harrowing details, heroic actions emerge of NFL employee shot during attack

Harrowing details and heroic actions emerged from the Park Avenue shooting Monday of an NFL employee who was shot during the attack. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported Craig Clementi was the employee referenced by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in a memo sent in the aftermath of the shooting.
Clementi reportedly told other NFL employees to evacuate the building and stay safe. He was shot Monday night, but miraculously survived.
“I just spoke with a high-ranking source in the NFL: Craig Clementi, an employee in the league’s finance department was struck in the back by a bullet during Monday night’s shooting,” Russini wrote on Twitter/X. “There is a belief that the bullet may have ricocheted before hitting him.
“Remarkably, the man, who had recently welcomed a new baby, was on the phone with other NFL employees at the time, warning them to stay safe and evacuate the building. He continued to make calls even while he was taken to the hospital by ambulance and Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a memo to league employees that their colleague is in stable condition.”
Goodell said in his memo that NFL was supporting Clementi, although the latter was not identified in the memo by name. There will be enhanced security protocols after the Park Avenue shooting in the coming days and weeks.
“NFL employees: As has been widely reported, a gunman committed an unspeakable act of violence in our building at 345 Park Avenue,” Goodell’s memo said. “One of our employees was seriously injured in this attack. He is currently in the hospital and in stable condition. NFL staff are at the hospital and we are supporting his family.

More details emerge from Park Avenue Shooting
“We believe that all of our employees are otherwise sage and accounted for, and the building has nearly been cleared. We are deeply grateful to the law enforcement officers who responded to this threat quickly and decisively and to Officer Islam, who gave his life to protect others. Please continue to pay close attention to GSOC notices for all available emergency information. These communications allow us to ensure that you are safe.”
The Post identified the shooter as Shane Tamura, who is from Las Vegas. Photos from outside of the building circulated around social media depicting the suspect appearing to casually walk up to the building at 345 Park Ave with a rifle in-hand.
Tamura reportedly began to open fire at around 6:30 p.m. before turning the gun on himself. A witness described the incident to The Post. They said it sounded like a barrage of shots, like an automatic weapon. “Like a high-capacity weapon.”
The identities of those killed and injured have not been released besides the shooter at the time of this report. According to the New York Post the police officer killed in duty was from the 47 Precinct, however, was working paid detail at the time for Rudin Properties, the company who owns the building.
