Patrick Mahomes praises Cowboys LB Micah Parsons following win

Dallas Cowboys rookie linebacker Micah Parsons has opened some eyes this season. Parsons’ strong rookie campaign continued on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs, as he wreaked havoc on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes all game.

Parsons totaled four tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss, and three quarterback hits on Mahomes in the game. He also forced Mahomes to fumble on one of his sacks. The Chiefs ultimately came away with a 19-9 victory. Despite the Cowboys losing, Mahomes took some time after the game to give some praise to Parsons for his strong game.

“He’s a special player,” Mahomes said of Parsons to reporters after the game via Pro Football Talk’s Josh Alper. “I mean, to be that good of a linebacker and be able to play defensive end, there’s not a lot of guys like that in this league. He has a high motor. He chased me down on that sack, the strip sack, and the whole game he was in there the whole time battling and battling.”

Parsons’ strong performance might have taken a toll on Mahomes throughout the game. Mahomes threw for 260 yards and an interception. He was held out of the end zone entirely.

Mahomes isn’t the only one to praise Parsons

Parsons, a rookie linebacker out of Penn State, was selected 11th overall in the latest NFL Draft. He has undoubtedly shown off his tremendous potential this season. His strong play has allowed the Cowboys to improve defensively, which was much needed.

Throughout the year, Cowboys coaches have praised Parsons. Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is very happy with what he’s seen from the rookie.

“I’m hard on him because I have a lot of belief and trust in him,” Quinn said of Parsons earlier in the year. “He’s a quick study. I was proud of him.

“He can run and hit like a you know what. That’s his superpower. He’s got rare speed and physicality to do that. We want to make sure that we’re always featuring that part of his game.”

Parsons has played all over the defense for the Cowboys. His confidence and ability to play multiple positions is valuable.

“He thinks he can do everything,” Cowboys special teams coordinator John Fassel said. “He literally wants to return kickoffs. And he wants to be the backup punter. He probably wants to play quarterback. Just a really fun kid, and I wouldn’t put anything past him.”
