Patrick Mahomes congratulated Quinn Ewers following his decision to reclassify to the class of 2021. As Ewers prepares to enroll at Ohio State, the Kansas City Chiefs signal caller tweeted the young quarterback.

“Good luck big dawg!” tweeted Mahomes. “Looking forward to seeing you at the next level.”

Ewers’ landmark decision means he will skip his final year of high school football for the Southlake Carroll Dragons near Irving, Texas. According to Peter Thamel of Yahoo! Sports, it’s estimated Ewers would leave close to $1 million on the table if he returned to high school.

“To my fellow Carroll Dragons: I will cherish the memories we made together,” Ewers said, in a written statement posted to Twitter. “Although I won’t be there on the field for you this year, I will be rooting for you. You’re my teammates now and forever.”

The former Southlake Carroll quarterback may have faced a tough decision, but it’s hard to argue he made the wrong choice. Ewers gets a jumpstart on his college career, while also being able to profit off his name, image and likeness.

Alas, there may be no better comfort than a tweet from a former NFL MVP and Super Bowl Champion in Mahomes.

Quinn Ewers’ Potential

Chad Simmons, On3’s National Director of Football Recruiting, explained in great detail what Quinn Ewers reclassifying to 2021 means.

“He is a big name with a huge presence on social media and has the chance to sign multiple deals when he starts college because of NIL. There is not any other way to say it. It is a huge blow to his high school,” Simmons wrote.

“He is a special talent, and the No. 1 player in the country for multiple reasons, but he’s not going to show up at Ohio State weeks before the season starts and be expected to make a significant impact.”

While Ewers will make an impact at Ohio State eventually, it’s tough to see him coming in and immediately unseating projected starting quarterback, C.J Stroud. In addition, Simmons laid out the ideal timelines for Ewers at Ohio State.

“If all works out perfectly for him, he will be at Ohio State for three seasons, starting two, making money because of NIL, and then a young NFL draftee in 2024.”

Ewers possesses special talent, the type of talent that could get you drafted first overall in the NFL Draft. In fact, Ewers tied recent top overall pick Trevor Lawrence’s rating from 247Sports.

Alas, Ewers was the nation’s top overall recruit according to many recruiting services, including On3.

Mahomes isn’t the only one excited to see Ewers take on the next level. His decision has ramifications that may change the landscape of both high school and college football.
