Richie Incognito hammers Adam Schefter over Jonathan Martin 'bullygate' revelations: 'You tried to ruin my life'

Former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Richie Incognito had a lot to say about Adam Schefter on social media Sunday. Incognito came after the ESPN reporter after Incognito’s former teammate, Jonathan Martin, revealed that he lied about allegations of bullying made against Incognito more than a decade ago.

The allegations resulted in Incognito being forced to take a two-year hiatus from playing in the NFL before signing with the Buffalos Bills ahead of 2015. He would go on to play five more seasons in the NFL before retiring with the Raiders in 2021.

All of this was the result of when, in 2013, ESPN alleged that Incognito had used racial slurs in a voicemail to Martin and was otherwise abusive toward him. But Martin admitted to the network more than a decade later that he “never believed for a second that I was being bullied.”

Schefter took to X, formerly Twitter, Sunday to reveal a screenshot from the ESPN article featuring that quote from Martin, calling it a “notable excerpt” from the story. Richie Incognito responded to the post by asserting that Adam Schefter was understating how severe the false allegations against him were at the time.

“Notable excerpt?! You tried to ruin my life over this bullsh**” he wrote. Later after one commentor suggested Schefter should make an apology, Icognito responded, “F*** an apology! I’m going to expose them all. Been waiting a long time for the truth to come out.”

The allegations against Incognito caused the Dolphins to suspend him that season. He never played for the team after that and underwent a two-year stretch where he did not play an NFL snap.

Incognito played his college football first at Oregon and later Nebraska. He would go on to be a third-round pick to the St. Louis Rams in the 2005 NFL Draft.

Incognito played a total of 15 NFL seasons before announcing his retirement. It will be interesting to see if anything further comes from this or is it was simply a matter of one party venting his frustrations against the other.
