Former South Carolina women's basketball post player finds new home via transfer portal
Earlier this month, South Carolina women’s basketball veteran post player Sakima Walker elected to leave the program via the transfer portal. She had spent two years with the Gamecocks and was a reserve on the team’s 2023-2024 national title team. On Saturday, she announced that she had found a new home.
Walker will play the 2025-2026 season with the Cal Golden Bears and head coach Charmin Smith. This season will be her final one in college basketball.
During her time with the Gamecocks, Walker scored 82 total points and secured 50 total rebounds over two seasons.

Walker was the first of two Gamecocks to enter the transfer portal this offseason. Rising junior guard MiLaysia Fulwiley also left the program via the portal. She signed with the rival LSU Tigers this week.
South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley has signed two transfer portal players of her own. Elite scoring guard Ta’Niya Latson (who led the country in points per game this season) and 6-6 center Madina Okot transferred in from Florida State and Mississippi State, respectively.
