The first round of the NASCAR In-Season Challenge has come and gone, with Carson Hocevar upsetting Ryan Blaney in the bracket. The Spire Motorsports driver was able to beat the Team Penske champion after a massive 23-car wreck took out the 12 car.

Now, Carson Hocevar and Ryan Blaney have a bit of history. Hocevar spun Blaney at the irst Atlanta race this season.

While doing a bit of trolling, Spire Motorsports may have bitten off more than they can chew. This is what they posted after the race.

Ryan Blaney hopped on Twitter and responded. “Still owe y’all for this one. Thanks for reminding me.” Well…it was fun while it lasted, Spire.

Carson Hocevar came back from damage in the Atlanta race. He had tape flapping on his right front as he sped back up towards the leaders. While it didn’t end in victory, this was a gutsy performance from Hocevar to get back on the lead lap and mix it up with the leaders once again.

For Ryan Blaney, it is the sixth DNF of the season. He can’t stop himself from getting into other drivers’ messes. He has been a magnet for wrecks this season.

In the end, Blaney was P40. Hocevar left Atlanta P10. Sunday night was a wild ride and one of the best races of the season. New Atlanta EchoPark Speedway always delivers.

Ryan Blaney lands another DNF this season

The last two years, Ryan Blaney has struggled with DNFs. He isn’t really seen as an aggressive racer, so it is strange to see him always caught up in someone else’s mess. But that’s how it has gone lately for the 12 team.

In 2022 and 2023, Blaney only had three DNFs in each season, six total. In 2024 he had seven DNFs, and six more already this year for 13 total. When he’s not wrecking out of races, Blaney is consistently one of the fastest drivers in the Cup Series. He has seven top-five finishes and a win to his name. In the 12 races that Blaney hasn’t been a DNF, his average finish has been 8.9.

So, Ryan Blaney doesn’t have the best luck. At least for now. Let’s see how his luck does on the streets of Chicago and then the twists and turns of Sonoma. There is still time for this team to win races and earn playoff points before the end of the regular season.
