Steelers make roster moves ahead of Broncos matchup
The Pittsburgh Steelers made some roster moves ahead of a Week 5 matchup with the Denver Broncos on Sunday. The team signed receiver Cody White to its 53-man roster and released guard Rashaad Coward.
The Steelers also elevated safety Karl Joseph from the practice squad. Joseph will only be a part of the active roster for this week, after which he will rejoin the practice team.
A former Michigan State player, White went undrafted in 2020. He was a member of the Steelers practice squad last year and signed a reserves/futures contract in January. He was waived in August but resigned with the team before Week 3. He caught two catches for 17 yards in a loss to the Bengals.
Joseph has been a member of the Steelers practice squad since the beginning of September.
Pittsburgh is off to a lackluster 1-3 start and searching to get its season back on track. The Steelers are currently in last place in the AFC North.
The receiving corps has suffered several setbacks this year, with all three starters on the injury report at some point. Week 5 appears to be the healthiest they have been in recent weeks, and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger should benefit from having all his weapons.

Rookie running back Najee Harris has also emerged as a receiving threat, with at least five catches in three of four games. The signing of White in the Steelers roster moves ahead of the Broncos game gives them more cushion should another pass catcher go down.
Denver is 3-1 but its wins have come against teams with a combined 2-10 record. The Broncos suffered their first loss this past week at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens. A healthy Pittsburgh team should be able to handle Denver, and the Broncos are only 1.5-point favorites.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET in Pittsburgh. How much of an impact will the new roster additions make?
