Steve Wilks announces PJ Walker will remain Panthers starting QB vs. Ravens

PJ Walker has filled in admirably in his time as the Carolina Panther’s starting quarterback. Amid the disaster that is Carolina’s QB room, Walker has started the last five games for the Panthers after Baker Mayfield was injured and benched against San Francisco in Week 5. Walker was benched himself during the team’s Week 9 loss but, after a Week 10 division win and as they enter Week 11, interim head coach Steve Wilks has voted again in Walker’s favor.
That’s because, even as Carolina’s depth chart at QB is healing up, Wilks said today that the team will work under the plan that Walker will be their starting quarterback when they head to Baltimore next week.

Walker has completed 54.6% of his passes in his five starts for 671 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. After a 1-4 start, he has led the team to a one-game improvement with his 2-3 stretch. It may not look like much, but it was enough to earn yet another vote of confidence from Wilks over Mayfield or Sam Darnold.
A lot can change over a week, especially since Carolina will have an extra few days before playing the Ravens on November 20th. Still, Walker has seemingly earned the respect of the Panther’s coaching staff. This all means that he will again assume the QB1 position for the team in their next outing.

Carolina Panthers defensive back Donte Jackson exits Falcons game with Achilles injury
Carolina Panthers veteran defensive back Donte Jackson suffered an Achilles injury on Thursday Night Football against the Atlanta Falcons. He was slow to get up from the play and it did not look good per reports. According to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network, he was spotted getting carted through the hallways of Bank of America Stadium. He then hopped into the locker room on one foot. He also had the shoe off on his other foot for further medical evaluation. We’ll have to see what the report is on the former LSU star after further tests and evaluations.
Jackson was listed on the team’s Thursday injury report this week after he dealt with an ankle injury. He was listed as a full participant in practice on the Panthers’ latest injury report.
With the win on Thursday night, the Panthers moved to 3-7 overall on the 2022-2023 season. They’ll be looking forward to the 2023 NFL Draft, where they can add a number of pieces for their future. It’ll be interesting to see which direction they decide to go in the first round.
