It’s that time of the year. The time when all college football fans start getting somewhat excited. When a conference’s football media day happens that is one of the preseason events to check off the list. Add to that fan fest and scrimmages and the holy trinity of preseason college football is here. With SBC Media Day 2025 happening tomorrow, let’s take a look at questions that need answering around the SBC

- If and when will conference expansion happen? That is the million dollar question these days. You must have to have added resources expand. The current media rights deal runs through through 2030-2031. If there could be a way to renegotiate those terms, then expansion is a possibility sooner than later. If not, It would be hard presses to add any university without anything financially enticing to join.

- What can the SBC do to maintain its status as a premier G-6 conference in football. This one seems pretty clear. Someone from the SBC must make the College Football Playoff. How can one do that when SBC members must play at least one “buy game” against a P4 school on the road. We all know how fair those contest and officials can be. The gulf between the P-4 and G-6 is ever expanding. This isn’t an issue that will get better which leads to the next question…..

- When does the split between the P-4 schools and G-6 schools take place? The playing field is not level when an SEC, ACC, Big 10, or Big 12 school can pay their QB more than what an SBC or AAC school can pay their while team. We have to face the fact that a split is coming. Not every school in the P-4 conferences will be able to make the split. What the SBC must do is make themselves so valuable that when the split occurs the SBC is in prime shape to be the top conference left standing.

- What can be down to grow basketball in the SBC and get multiple bids to the tournament? This is a question that has been asked a lot lately. Maybe scheduling the top six teams from 2024 to play in 2025 might help NET rankings somewhat. Teams are just gonna have to do the heavy lifting and start winning non-conference road games. Universities must spend more on basketball from a facility and NIL standpoint. Until universities take the initiative here, there isn’t much the SBC can do. The selection of SBC Commisioner Keith Gill as the Chair of the NCAA D-1 Basketball Committee is a great starting point.
