WATCH: Troubling footage leaked of Deshaun Watson deposition

Deshaun Watson was grilled with questions from any attorney during his recent deposition in Texas. Now, after grand juries in two counties declined to indict the NFL quarterback on criminal charges in lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct filed by 22 women, part of that footage has been released.
In a video posted on Twitter by NFL reporter Dov Kleiman, Watson admitted he did not tell the Houston Texans nor his trainer he went to see a massage therapist on the day of one alleged incident. He also became defensive in response to the line of questioning near the end of the clip.
“What did you want from her?” the lawyer asked Watson.
“Just a massage,” the quarterback responded.
The attorney then asked whether the massage therapist was licensed or trained, to which Watson said he wasn’t sure.
“Pretty risky to go to a place you’ve never been before to have someone who you didn’t know about their skill level give you a massage,” the lawyer followed up before questioning an Instagram post from Watson. “What I’m trying to figure out is why you would post something on Instagram suggesting you were in New York City when you were instead in Houston getting a massage.”
Watson had no answer.
“On the advice of my lawyer, I assert my rights under the Fifth Amendment,” he said.
Watson also faced questioning about another incident in which he drove 30 minutes out of town for a massage to meet a woman at her mother’s house and brought his own towel.

“You don’t think that’s a little bit strange?” the attorney asked
“It can be, but we were just communicating,” a smiling Watson said. “…I’m serious too, sir.”
“I’m not criticizing you, I’m just trying to figure it out.”
“You are kind of. It is what it is.”
Watson did not play at all during the 2021 season as he awaited the results of the criminal trial. After the first deposition in Harris County cleared him of criminal charges, the three-time Pro Bowler was shipped to Cleveland in exchange for six draft picks. Shortly after that, the second deposition took place in Brazos County.
Although he will not face criminal charges, 22 civil cases against Watson are still pending as he heads into next season. His lawyer, Rusty Hardsin, said in a statement they intend to fight and win those pending cases.
“Now that the criminal investigations have been completed, we are happy to move forward with the civil case depositions,” Hardsin said. “We will vigorously defend those cases with every ounce that we have. There were no crimes committed here but it is a plaintiffs’ attorney churning up negative press and churning up his clients hoping for a big pay day. These cases have been the product of a lawyer maximizing his own personal publicity at the expense of others, including his own clients. It is time to let Deshaun move on.”
Watson could also face a potential suspension from the NFL, though the league’s investigation is still ongoing.
