2025 MLB Draft: Jamie Arnold contract details revealed for Athletics first-round pick

Just over a week after being selected 11th overall in the first round by the Athletics in the 2025 MLB Draft, right-handed pitcher Jamie Arnold has agreed to terms on his pro contract. He’ll receive $5.9 million — which is full value for the pick, per Spotrac.
Arnold pitched three seasons at Florida State, where he was instrumental in the Seminoles’ run to the 2024 Men’s College World Series. Excluding his freshman season, the Tampa, FL native posted a 2.98 ERA over 190 1/3 innings with 278 strikeouts in two seasons.
He pitched one game in the 2024 Men’s College World Series against eventual National Champions Tennessee. Over five innings, Arnold allowed eight hits and four earned runs while striking out four batters.
The right-hander was one of the most accomplished pitchers in the sport, as he was named a two-time First Team All-American, received First Team All-ACC honors twice and was a two-time Dick Howser Trophy and Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist.
Arnold was Florida State’s highest drafted pitcher since 1995
He’ll now join an Athletics organization that is in franchise purgatory, as it will play games in Sacramento, CA until it makes the move to Las Vegas, NV in 2028. Arnold was one of a few notable college names selected by the A’s, joining Indiana outfielder Devin Taylor, Oregon State outfielder Gavin Turley and West Virginia catcher Logan Sauve.

“A left-hander with a rangy body and a loose, whippy arm, Arnold has seen his stuff tick up since leaving Jesuit High School for Tallahassee,” his MLB.com scouting report reads. “Coming from a lower arm slot and flat approach angle, his fastball, which was 88-92 mph in high school, now sits in the 94-95 mph range and touches 97 mph, with a ton of life to miss bats. While his slider can be a little wide at times, the 82-85 mph sweeping breaking ball is a second plus offering that elicited a 41-percent miss rate in 2024. His changeup is his third pitch, and he doesn’t need it much, but there’s some feel for it.
Arnold was selected with the No. 11 pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, marking Florida State‘s highest overall draft selection since 2008 and the highest-drafted pitcher since 1995 (Jonathan Johnson).
“Arnold has shown the ability to fill up the strike zone and limit damage while maintaining his stuff deep into outings,” his scouting report continued. “With the funky arm slot, his stuff has drawn some comparisons to Chris Sale’s, a reason why his name will be mentioned in conversations at the top of the first round.”
