Just over a week after being selected 125th overall in the first round by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2025 MLB Draft, right-handed pitcher Joshua Flores has agreed to terms on his pro contract. He’ll receive $722,500 — which is well above value ($599,600) for the pick, per Spotrac.

Flores was committed to the University of Kentucky, but he will forgo college and head straight to professional baseball. The Crown Point, IN native was tabbed as the No. 80 ranked player (No. 18 ranked right-handed pitcher) in the Class of 2025. He was the No. 4 ranked player in the state of Indiana.

“Flores’ hammer curveball ranges from 82-85 mph with downer break, grading as a well above-average pitch at times but also moving so much he has difficulty landing it in the zone,” his MLB.com scouting report reads. “He has better command of a tighter slider with similar velocity. Hitters can’t really guard against his breaking balls because his fastball sits at 92-95 mph and touches 97 with some armside run and carry.”

Flores was one of three Kentucky commits selected in Draft

The Indiana native was one of three Kentucky Baseball high school commits selected in the 2025 MLB Draft, joining LHP/1B Connor Essenburg (No. 157 to Atlanta Braves) and catcher Jase Mitchell (No. 216 to Houston Astros). Kentucky commit Owen Jenkins participated in the 2025 MLB Draft Combine, but withdrew his name from the draft pool and will make it to Lexington next season.

“Flores barely utilizes his mid-80s changeup, which flashes some interesting tumble,” his scouting report continued. “The Kentucky recruit has a long arm action and effort in his delivery, which hampers his ability to throw strikes, let alone locate his offerings with much precision. He’ll be an intriguing project for a team that believes in its ability to develop pitchers.”

Flores was one of 10 high school players selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the MLB Draft as it continues to bolster its farm system, which was ranked seventh best in the league back in March. Corona High School (CA) shortstop Brady Ebel (pick No. 32), Delsea Reg High School (NJ) left-hander Frank Cairone and Flores were their top-three high school selections.

The right-hander became just the sixth Lake Central alum selected in an MLB Draft. He is the highest drafted player in school history.
