The 2025 NASCAR Cup Series Playoff standings have been updated after Chase Briscoe won the YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday. This was the second Round of 8 playoff race, meaning the remaining playoff drivers have one last chance to clinch a spot in the championship race.

Entering Sunday’s race, Denny Hamlin was the only driver to clinch a spot in the Championship 4. Here’s a look at the updated NASCAR Cup Series Playoff standings after the Talladega race.

Rank Driver Playoff Points
1Chase Briscoe Win
2Denny Hamlin Win
3Christopher Bell +37
4Kyle Larson+36
5William Byron-36
6Joey Logano-38
7Ryan Blaney-47
8Chase Elliott-62

Since Briscoe won at Talladega and is still in the playoffs, he will join Hamlin in the championship race on Nov. 2. Both drivers represent Joe Gibbs Racing and are looking to win their first championship.

After the race, Briscoe spoke to NBC Sports about racing for a championship for the first time in his career. “So thankful that the Lord has blessed me opening doors, even closing doors at times,” Briscoe said. “Opening an incredible door here with Joe Gibbs Racing. I say it all the time, even today, I had such a peace. Normally, I’m scared to death, nervous wreck around this place. I had such a peace that regardless of the finish, he was going to use it somehow for His glory. Ends up in Victory Lane.

Christopher Bell (another Joe Gibbs Racing driver) and Kyle Larson are the last two drivers above the cut line. They are in good spots to clinch the final top spots in the championship race, unless one of the four drivers below the cut line wins at Martinsville next Sunday.

And the four drivers below the cut line are regular-season champion William Byron, Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney, and Chase Elliott. The best way for any of those four to reach the championship race is to win at Martinsville.
