21-year-old charged for burglary of Richard Sherman, other athletes

An arrest was made in connection with the robbery of Richard Sherman’s house back in March. A 21-year-old Seattle man, who was not named in the release, via Brady Henderson of ESPN, was charged with targeted burglaries of Sherman and other athlete’s houses.
“The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office worked for weeks on multiple search warrants that led to the filing of these felony charges today,” Attorney Leesa Manion said in a release. “I am grateful for the excellent work from our deputy prosecutors and from police investigators on these home burglaries, and all burglaries filed in King County. All people deserve to feel safe in their homes, and our office will continue to hold people accountable for criminal behavior.”
The unnamed defendant is being held in the King County Jail on $1 million bail for this case. Sherman wasn’t the only target however.
In addition to Sherman, the defendant was charged with residential burglary for the occupied home of Seattle Mariners center fielder Julio Rodriguez, the home of pitcher Luis Castillo, robbery in the first degree for the victim inside Sherman’s home and the residential burglary for the home of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell. Sherman’s home was occupied at the time, as the former defensive back described.
“House being robbed at gun point with my family in it isn’t what anyone wants for a birthday gift,” Sherman wrote on Twitter. “Scary situation that my Wife handled masterfully and kept my kids safe. If anyone has any info that can help find these people please reach out.”
Sherman also posted camera footage of the incident in the form of screenshots. They were from his home security system.

It’s certainly been a turbulent calendar year for Sherman, who’s worked as an NFL analyst for Amazon during his post-playing days. He was arrested last year on suspicion of DUI.
According to CNN‘s reporting from the Washington State Patrol, the former cornerback was driving 79 miles per hour in a 60 miles per hour zone. Upon performing the traffic stop, the police questioned Sherman about whether he’d been drinking, at which point he told them he’d had two margaritas. He submitted to a voluntary alcohol test at the scene of the stop.
The first appearance document in Sherman’s case also noted that he had “watery and bloodshot” eyes. It also describes how the police noted an “odor of intoxicants.”
A King County District Court judge found probable cause for DUI. His bail was eventually set at $5,000.
Sherman played for 11 years in the NFL, with the majority of it coming with the Seahawks and 49ers. He was one of the best defensive backs in the league, earning All-Pro three times.
