Aaron Rodgers addresses viral comment on Davante Adams in Lake Tahoe: 'I think I was talking about golf'

Remember all that speculation about Davante Adams possibly reuniting with Aaron Rodgers by signing with the Jets? Would the receiver leave the Raiders? Or maybe go back to the Packers? It was all on the table.
Basically, the chatter was coming during the high point of chatty dead season, with nothing for the NFL shows to talk about except speculation of trades, signings and possible holdouts.
Of course, Rodgers amplified it all, when he told a reporter following him at the American Century Championship in Tahoe that he looked forward to playing with Adams again. The quarterback didn’t make eye contact with the reporter as he looked down at his scorecard. The reporter asked Rodgers about how the Vegas offensive coordinator Luke Getsy would utilize Adams, who now is in his third season with the Raiders.
Rodgers answered the question. He loved Getsy, he said. Then, unprompted, he threw in “I love Davante Adams, I can’t wait to play with him…again.”
Aaron Rodgers did a media availability with the New York media Wednesday after another day at Jets training camp. Towards the end, a reporter asked Rodgers about what he meant with his Adams comment. The quarterback paused before he answered.
“I do love Davante, for sure,” Rodgers said. Of course the two have a nice friendship. It was built through eight years of playing together in Green Bay.
Then Rodgers said he threw out the extra morsel of info to toy with the reporter.
“The guy who asked the question, that particular guy was a tad bit irritating,” Rodgers said. “One of those things, where, somebody is in your ear, asking the same question over and over. Was just trying to give him something, get rid of him. But, I think I was talking about golf.”
Nope, in the context of it all, he was talking about football. But Rodgers can be like an overgrown feline who likes to slap about his much smaller prey. He has his own fun. Then again, Adams also was playing in the golf tournament.

Add this detail to the mix. In a separate interview earlier that week, Adams said that Rodgers was “in his ear” about joining the quarterback in the Meadowlands.
“He’s in the ear, but it’s not as easy,” Adams said during the interview on the Up & Adams Show. “Obviously, we can get together and talk about the old times and the potential of doing this and that. But like I said, I’m a Raider and he knows that.”

Of course, the whole time this Aaron Rodgers-Davante Adams story circulated, newest Packer Josh Jacobs pestered Adams about coming back to Green Bay. Jacobs and Adams were teammates for two years in Vegas. Jacobs loves it at Lambeau, so he wanted to bring back a friend.
But now that training camp has started, the chatter is calming down. There’s actual stuff to talk about, like what Rodgers looks like in camp playing on a surgically-repaired left Achilles. He’s not going to play in any preseason games, but he’s practicing.
Or, another question is who will be the quarterback throwing balls to Adams when the regular season starts?
It would be fun to see Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams together again. But it doesn’t appear like it’s going to happen, even if everybody likes to talk about it.
