Aaron Rodgers drops major hint on free agency, chances he signs with Steelers

Many expect the Aaron Rodgers free agency saga to come to an end in the near future. Rodgers himself threw fuel on the fire after a fan asked if he’d even consider playing for the Chicago Bears.
The Bears are the longtime bitter rival of the Green Bay Packers, the franchise which Rodgers spent well over a decade with to begin his NFL career. While he may not be too keen on the idea of playing for the Bears — a team who drafted its potential franchise quarterback in Caleb Williams in 2024 — he may be interested in playing for a team that heads to Soldier Field this fall.
“I believe there’s a team that might play in Chicago this year on a road trip,” Rodgers responded. “I love Chicago. I love them way more than they love me, though. It’s been a great relationship. All one way.”
Notably, the Pittsburgh Steelers play the Bears on the road during Week 12 on Nov. 23. The New Orleans Saints are also in need of a quarterback, and they also play in Chicago during the season. However, there’s been little indication of the Saints being involved in Rodgers’ sweepstakes.

Rodgers’ cryptic response will spark even more speculation of where he may end up. However, Ian O’Connor, who wrote the longtime NFL quarterback’s biography, recently stated that he believes it’s only a matter of time before he signs with Pittsburgh. He believes that Rodgers may have already told the organization that he plans to play for them in 2025, and wouldn’t be a surprise if the former NFL MVP puts pen to paper by the end of May.
The reason for the holdup has been chalked up to personal issues, which Rodgers revealed during an interview with Pat McAfee in April. However, the end of May is approaching rapidly, which means Rodgers’ final decision could be made soon. Pittsburgh’s mandatory veteran minicamp is set to begin on June 10, so that timeline adds up.
This is the first time Rodgers has gone through any sort of free agency during his career. He was traded to the New York Jets after spending 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers. However, his time with the Jets was short-lived and after two years and one healthy season, he was released earlier this offseason. Now, he’ll look to march his way back to the top of the NFL with his newest team — whether that be in Pittsburgh or elsewhere.
