The Pittsburgh Steelers received good news about Aaron Rodgers, who injured his wrist during Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. According to Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Rodgers had further tests on his fractured left wrist on Monday, and he won’t need surgery. The four-time NFL MVP wants to play on Sunday against the Chicago Bears, but the doctors have to clear him before that happens.

Aaron Rodgers suffered the injury in the first half of the Steelers’ 34-12 victory over the Bengals. After the game, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that Rodgers would be further evaluated on Monday.

Pelissero and Rapoport reported on Sunday that Rodgers suffered a small fracture in his left wrist after taking X-rays at Acrisure Stadium. When Rodgers suffered the injury, Mason Rudolph took over at quarterback at the start of the second half. Rodgers went 9-of-15 passing for 116 yards and one touchdown, while Rudolph went 12-of-16 for 127 yards and one TD.

Aaron Rodgers is happy with his receiving group

Rodgers joined the Steelers this season after spending the last two years with the New York Jets. Through 10 games this year, the 42-year-old has completed 66.4 percent of his passes for 1,969 yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He has led the Steelers to a 6-4 record, which is good enough for first place in the NFC North.

Earlier this month, when the trading deadline passed, Rodgers talked about how happy he is with the receiving group, despite rumors of the Steelers adding talent as they make a push to the Super Bowl. “What I’ve learned about the trading deadline,” Rodgers said (per Steelers.com), “is there’s a lot of conversation and rarely is there a lot of action. Maybe a little bit more the last few years, but in my early days, there was hardly ever any roster moves at the deadline. There were some big ones yesterday. But you know, you feel pretty good about your guys.”

Rodgers also talked about how the Steelers run their offense. “We’re a multiple-personnel team. We run a lot of guys out there,” he said. “We had an offensive lineman play a lot of snaps. Obviously, Darnell (Washington) plays a lot of snaps, and Jonnu (Smith) and Pat (Freiermuth), and Connor (Heyward) get in there on some plays, rotating three different backs, a lot of different receivers, so we’re not a big three-receiver team in general.”
