Aaron Rodgers injury update: Steelers QB exits game bleeding, Mason Rudolph takes over vs. Bills
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers exited Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills, and Mason Rudolph took over at QB. Rodgers was bleeding after taking a sack from Bills pass rusher Joey Bosa early in the third quarter.
When Rudolph came in after Rodgers’ injury, he threw an interception, and it led to a Bills TD. Rodgers returned in the next series.
Aaron Rodgers’ exit was concerning as he was playing with a wrist injury. The four-time NFL MVP injured his wrist in the Steelers’ Week 11 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, which led him to miss the team’s Week 12 game against the Chicago Bears. Mason Rudolph was the starting QB in the Bears game, and Pittsburgh lost 31-28.
After last week’s loss, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said he expected Rodgers to play in the Bills game. “I anticipate him being ready for next week [against the Buffalo Bills],” Tomlin said on Sunday, per Brooke Pryor of ESPN. “It was a prudent decision to make. Certainly, it wasn’t a fluid week for him. It was a fluid week for Mason in terms of reps and so forth, and so I think it’ll be in our rear view as we move forward. I’m hopeful of that.”

Aaron Rodgers gives update on his wrist injury
“I’ve had more days for the callus to form and more healing, especially Monday and Tuesday, just doing rehab,” Rodgers said on Thanksgiving Day. “[Wednesday] I did a little bit more. [Thursday] I’ll do a little bit more and see where I’m at come Friday.”
Rodgers entered Sunday’s game with solid numbers for the 2025 season. In 10 games, the 41-year-old has completed 66.4 percent of his passes for 1,969 yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions with a 97.7 passer rating. The Steelers signed Rodgers in the offseason after the veteran quarterback spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets.
The Steelers are in need of wins, as they are in a battle with the Baltimore Ravens for the AFC North lead. Entering Sunday’s game, Pittsburgh had a half-game lead in the division after Baltimore lost to the Bengals on Thanksgiving night.
