Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers suffered a crushing loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night. In the loss, Rodgers put his name into NFL record books. But he won’t be happy with the record that he broke.

Losing to the 49ers in the playoffs has been something that Rodgers has done many times before with the Packers.

“The 49ers just made Aaron Rodgers the only QB in NFL history to lose 4 playoff starts to a single opponent,” NFL Research tweeted.

Rodgers’ first experience with the 49ers in the playoffs came in 2012. The Packers went 11-5 that season, but the 49ers handed Rodgers a 45-31 loss in the Divisional Round. The two teams faced off in 2013 in the Wild Card round as well, with the 49ers winning 23-20. In 2019, the Packers went 13-3. But the 49ers again had the last laugh in the NFC Championship, winning 37-20.

For the 49ers, they are obviously on the right side of history by punching their ticket to the NFC Championship. It will be their 17th conference championship appearance, which surpasses the Steelers for the most in the league since the NFL merger in 1970.

The Packers jumped out to a 7-0 lead early on Saturday night, but that was all the Green Bay offense could do. Green Bay was held without a touchdown for the remainder of the game, and ultimately lost 13-10 on a last second field goal.

Rodgers completed 20 of his 29 pass attempts for 225 yards in the Packers’ loss. He did not have a touchdown or interception and was sacked five times.

Rodgers’ future with Packers again uncertain following 49ers loss

As we saw last offseason, Rodgers’ future with the Packers is incredibly uncertain following the latest loss in the playoffs. Last offseason, Rodgers’ displeasure with the team’s front office was well documented. Eventually, though, he returned and ended up playing very well this season.

But as Green Bay enters another offseason coming off of a disappointing finish, Rodgers is likely to take his time before deciding on whether or not to return to the Packers next season.

“I’m gonna take some time and have conversations with the folks around here and then take some time away and make a decision,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers will be in the MVP conversation once the season comes to a close. On the season, he threw for 4,115 yards with 37 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He also rushed for three touchdowns.
