Green Bay’s season has only been done for just over half a day and there’s already speculation surrounding the future of Packer QB Aaron Rodgers. At age 39 and having just completed his 18th season, Rodgers could elect to call it a career this offseason. Amidst all the rumors and questions, though, one moment he had after the game was both heartfelt and, potentially, telling.

As Rodgers headed to the tunnel at Lambeau Field following the 20-16 loss to the Detroit Lions, he linked up with wide receiver Randall Cobb. The two have connected so many times over the years with Cobb spending two stints with the franchise. During his postgame press conference, Rodgers reminisced about his relationship with Cobb and what it has meant to him over the course of his time in the NFL.

“I just love the man,” said Rodgers. “I’ve always had a tight friendship with him and (have) just a lot of gratitude in the midst of disappointment. The best part about this game is the relationships that come out of it. Those last longer than the career. And I’m thankful for Randall.”

Cobb spent the first six seasons of his career playing with Rodgers from 2011 to 2018. He then spent two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans before returning to Green Bay in 2021.

As for Cobb, he also provided a thoughtful response on it after Detroit knocked them out of the playoff hunt. He said it just sort of happened and was similar to his first time coming off the field with Rodgers, a person he loves and respects, way back when in the early days of his career.

“It was what it was. Just kind of had a moment and just kind of took it all in,” said Cobb. “I remember, after my first ever football game here in Green Bay, us walking off the field together. It was a special feeling. This one felt a little different.”

“It just kind of happened that way,” Cobb said. “We were coming off the field at the same time, we were by each other. And we took a walk together off the field.”

Only Rodgers knows what the future holds for himself and in the league. With that said, this moment felt powerful in more ways than one considering the connection between him and Cobb over the years. If that were indeed his final game in the pros, sharing that moment with Cobb as they left the field likely felt as powerful as any walk could have as we now wait and see what’s next for Rodgers this offseason.
