Aaron Rodgers reveals reasons for delay in free agency decision
Aaron Rodgers is not in a rush to make a decision when it comes to his future in the NFL. On Thursday, the four-time NFL MVP quarterback appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and revealed that the reason for the delay in his free agency decision is that there are too many things going on in his personal life.
“I’m in a different phase of my life,” Rodgers said. “I’m 41 years old, I’m in a serious relationship. I have off-the-field stuff going on that requires my attention. I have personal commitments that I’ve made, not knowing what my future was going to look like after last year, that are important to me.”
Rodgers continued, “I have a couple of people in my inner inner circle who are really battling some difficult stuff. So I have a lot of things that have taken my attention and have beginning in January away from football. That’s been where I’ve been focusing most of my attention on.”
Aaron Rodgers became a free agent when the Jets released him in March. He spent two seasons with the team but played in just 18 games during that span because he missed nearly all of the 2023 season due to an Achilles injury.

“I personally want to thank Aaron for his time at the New York Jets,” Jets owner Woody Johnson said in February. “His arrival in 2023 was met with unbridled excitement and I will forever be grateful that he chose to join us to continue his Hall of Fame career. From day one, he embodied all that it meant to be a New York Jet, embraced our fans, and immersed himself in our city. That is what I will remember most when I look back at his time here. He will always be welcome, and I wish him only the best in whatever he chooses to do next.”
Aaron Rodgers has been in the NFL since the 2005 season. He spent 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers and became the team’s starting quarterback in 2008. During his time with the Packers, Rodgers won the MVP award four times and led the team to a Super Bowl in 2010.
