Aaron Rodgers shuts down Saints rumors: 'I don’t want to live in Louisiana'

This weekend, Aaron Rodgers was asked by a fan whether he’s ever consider signing with the Chicago Bears. Rodgers denied this notion, but hinted that there may be a team that he’s interested in playing for that has a road trip to Soldier Field in 2025.

This piqued the interest of a couple of fanbases. Namely, the Pittsburgh Steelers. They’re set to play the Bears in Chicago during Week 12. However, they aren’t the only team who are quarterback-needy franchise to play Chicago on the road this fall — so are the New Orleans Saints.

 “No,” Rodgers quickly said. “That’s the answer. I’ve played there a couple times. But no, I’m too old. I don’t want to live in Louisiana. Sorry.”

This answer narrows Rodgers list of potential suitors even further. It appears that Pittsburgh is the most likely destination — at least that’s according to Ian O’Connor, who has developed a close relationship with the NFL quarterback as the writer of his biography. He expects Rodgers to put pen to paper by the end of May ahead of mandatory offseason workouts.

If Rodgers doesn’t sign by then, ESPN’s Dan Graziano recently stated that he believes the franchise should cut ties with the veteran quarterback and look elsewhere for a starting quarterback. This would be a surprising decision, as the two likely quarterbacks on the Steelers roster that could find themselves starting in Week 1 are Mason Rudolph, who served as the backup to Will Levis in Tennessee last season, or rookie Will Howard who has no NFL experience. Neither is a particularly attractive option when compared to what Rodgers is expected to bring to the Steelers.

Regardless of where Rodgers ends up, he’ll be looking to return to form as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. Since leaving the Green Bay Packers, he suffered a torn Achilles in Week 1 of the 2023 season. He would be able to return to the field the following season, but ended leading the Jets to a 5-12 record.

Now rested and healthy with a full season under his belt since the Achilles injury, O’Connor expects Rodgers to bounce back and be able to lead whichever team he plays for next season to the playoffs, just as he did with the Packers on multiple occasions. Only time will tell if that is in Pittsburgh, or elsewhere in 2025. However, many signs point toward this being the case.
