Aaron Rodgers to wear No. 8 for Pittsburgh Steelers

Aaron Rodgers will wear No. 8 for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team announced. Rodgers wore No. 12 for years with the Green Bay Packers but has not donned the number since leaving. He rocked No. 8 for the New York Jets and will continue to do so in Pittsburgh.

While 12 is not officially retired by the franchise, the Steelers have not given it out since quarterback Terry Bradshaw left. Rodgers faced something similar in New York, although the Jets do have the number in the rafters. The legendary Joe Nammath is an all-time great, causing Rodgers to switch things up.

Picking a number should be the beginning of a potentially interesting season for Rodgers. Not much success was found in New York, falling short with the Jets. Rodgers has been after the second Super Bowl of his career and hopes the Steelers are the team he can win it with.

Week 1 is always a game to circle but the Steelers are going up against the Jets. Green Bay will come to Pittsburgh on Sunday Night Football, another instance of Rodgers going up against his former team. Week 12 might be the most interesting of them all, though, traveling to a place where the quarterback has an incredible record — Soldier Field.

All while wearing No. 8 for the Steelers. Still an image plenty of people around the league will have to get used to, Rodgers has the opportunity to spend one of his final years with one of the NFL’s most historic franchises.

Aaron Rodgers officially signs contract with Pittsburgh Steelers

Aaron Rodgers officially signed his one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers Saturday, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The insider had the details and incentives.

“ESPN sources: Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers was in the team’s training facility today to sign his one-year, $13.65 million contract that includes $10 million guaranteed and has a maximum value of $19.5 million,” Schefter wrote on Twitter. “The deal includes $5.85 million worth of playtime and team performance incentives.”

He spent two years with the Jets after coming over from the Green Bay Packers, but his first season in New York ended on his first drive of the 2023 season due to an Achilles injury. In 2024, he threw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns, along with 11 interceptions, marking two straight full seasons with at least 10 picks.
