While drama ensued on the PGA Tour on Sunday afternoon, similar theatrics were taking place on the Korn Ferry Tour. Former Alabama golfer Robby Shelton had an incredible final round, shooting 6-under on the day to win the Pinnacle Bank Championship by one stroke.

Shelton did most of his scoring on the front nine, beginning with an eagle at the Par 5, 4th hole. Add in five more birdies and only one bogey blemish on the scorecard had the best day of anyone near the top of the leaderboard. Overall, he finished -17 under and a stroke ahead of Ben Taylor.

Sunday marked the second Korn Ferry Tour victory of the season for Shelton and his fourth overall. He also has earned his card for the PGA Tour next season, meaning he will be taking a step up into the big leagues.

The two biggest tournaments Shelton has played in is the US Open. He missed the cut in 2014 while still at Alabama and then again in the 2021 edition. However, he has improved since then and will be playing PGA Tour courses on a weekly basis now. Shelton will be able to continue to get better and begin to compete at the highest level.

With Shelton now on Tour, he will be the third different player from Alabama to represent the Tide. Justin Thomas is the star of the group, winning this year’s PGA Championship in June. Davis Riley has had a solid season as well, as both will be competing for the FedEx Cup over the next few weeks.

Thomas and Shelton played together on the 2013 team as well, winning the national championship for just the second time in school history. Shelton was just a freshman, while Thomas was in his final season with the program.
