“When you don’t play complementary football, you find ways to lose games and that’s what happened with Alabama. It’s unfortunate,” said Harper. “I mean, it’s really unfortunate because they beat Georgia the week before and raised all these expectations. … Now, all of a sudden, the honeymoon phase is over because you lost to Vanderbilt. It’s over.”
During his first press conference following that Alabama loss, well before the game against Tennessee, DeBoer received a question about his lack of visible frustration in Nashville. He made it clear, though, that he very much was and they very much were.
“I mean, I’m extremely frustrated,” DeBoer said. “We all are, you know, but we’re not going to lose our cool over that. We understand, you know, what happened.”
Sharing those frustrations is only going to get the Crimson Tide so far too. That’s especially so with still over half a season left and all that they want to accomplish still out there for them to do.
“We’re all extremely frustrated but we aren’t going to sit and lose our cool because, you know, I don’t think that’s the right way to go about it. You know, there’s a time and place for everything,” DeBoer said. “Again, we’re still early in the season, you know. We left ourselves a little less wiggle room to achieve some of the goals we have but those goals are still out there.”
