It’s not often you get multi-sport crossovers from famous athletes and their families, but it certainly happens. Just ask former Green Bay Packers superstar Antonio Freeman and his son, Alex Freeman.

Freeman’s son is now a famous soccer player with the United States. He’s slowly been inching his way into bigger and bigger roles with the national team.

On Tuesday night in a friendly against Uruguay the younger Freeman converted a beautiful header at the back post for the first goal of his senior United States Men’s National Team career. It helped the USMNT take a 2-0 lead in the contest and will certainly bring some goodwill to the program ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which will be highly anticipated on home soil.

Alex Freeman scored off the corner kick in what was his 13th appearance, or cap, for the USMNT. He has quickly become a regular for Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad, though.

Freeman actually set a USMNT record by becoming the youngest player in the team’s history to start six straight games in the Gold Cup. He did so at age 20 at the time. He is now 21, enjoying a birthday on Aug. 9.

A defender, Alex Freeman doesn’t get a ton of opportunities to convert goal-scoring chances. So when he does get them, it’s vital that he take full advantage like he did on Tuesday night. That will be key to getting him potential minutes in a tournament like the World Cup.

And sure enough, shortly after notching his first career goal with the USMNT, Alex Freeman struck again. He scored in the 31st minute after sneaking into the box on the attack and working his way past two defenders.

His father, of course, already knows about competing on the world’s largest stage. He spent nine years in the NFL, winning a Super Bowl title with the Green Bay Packers in his second season in the league.

Freeman, like his son Alex Freeman, had a knack for doing it all. He was a kickoff and punt return monster, breaking onto the scene that was before establishing himself as one of the NFL’s best wideouts in his later years.

As a fourth-year pro in 1998, Freeman recorded 84 catches for 1,424 yards and 14 touchdowns. He led the league in receiving yardage that year.

In total during his career, Freeman snagged 477 catches for 7,251 yards and 61 touchdowns. His son, Alex Freeman, was born in 2004, just after Antonio Freeman’s NFL career ended.
