New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s Week 12 home game against the Atlanta Falcons. He is out for the remainder of the game, the Saints announced.

Kamara left the game in the first quarter after his right leg got twisted up near the sideline. He was evaluated in the blue medical tent before being ruled out.

With Kamara sidelined, Devin Neal has taken the bulk of the work coming out of the backfield. The rookie tailback has a combined six touches for 37 yards.

Kamara, 30, is in his ninth season in the NFL, all with the Saints. The former Tennessee standout has been one the best running backs of the last decade, contributing both on the ground and through the air. Kamara entered Sunday’s game with 7,239 career rushing yards and 4,944 receiving yards. He has 86 total touchdowns.

Alvin Kamara wants to finish NFL career with Saints

Kamara has one more year remaining on the two-year, $24.5 million extension he signed with the Saints last October. He is one of the greatest players in franchise history, but he was rumored to have been candidate to be moved at this year’s trade deadline. Kamara, however, wants to finish his career with the Saints.

“Yeah, I don’t know where that [came from]. We [Kamara and general manager Mickey Loomis] talked about [the report] and we was looking at each other like the little Spider-Man meme: ‘Did you say something? Did I say something?'” Kamara said in October. “I don’t know where that came from, but I think I’ve been vocal enough that … I don’t want to go anywhere. And I said it countless times, y’all know that. I think everybody knows that. The fan base knows that.

“And at the end of the day, it’s business. So, I don’t go upstairs, and I don’t have an office upstairs. I got an office in Charlotte at NASCAR, but I don’t got an office upstairs, so I don’t really sit in those meetings, and I don’t really know what happens up there.”
