The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly in negotiations with head coach Andy Reid for a lucrative new contract. The three-time Super Bowl-winning head coach is reportedly expected to become the highest-paid skipper in the NFL once he inks the new deal, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Reid and Chiefs general manager Brett Veach have two more years on their current contracts, however, after winning yet another title, the team is sweetening the pot for both. They each signed new deals after winning Super Bowl LIV after the 2019 season. The head coach’s current deal nets him $12 million per year.

New Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh’s contract is worth $16 million annually over five years. For comparison, Harbaugh’s brother John makes $12 million per year as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick made $25 million per year in his final season in Foxborough, which made him the highest-paid coach in the NFL.

With Belichick’s retirement, the next highest-paid head coach in 2023 was Sean Peyton, who makes $18 million a year with the Denver Broncos. That means Reid’s deal could be anywhere from $18 million to $25 million a year beginning next season.

The Chiefs have been working several deals out since the end of the season. They inked defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo to a new contract for three years and also extended special teams coordinator Dave Toub’s contract.

Patrick Mahomes calls Andy Reid the coaching GOAT

If it was up to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City would hand over as much money as it takes to keep Reid out of retirement. Mahomes told reporters after the Super Bowl victory over the 49ers that Reid is not *one of* the best, but the best head coach in the NFL.

“He’s one of the best coaches of all time. I believe he’s the best coach of all time,” Mahomes said post-game. “I know he doesn’t have the trophies yet, and I have a lot of respect for some of those great coaches. But the way he’s able to navigate every single team he has, and continue to have success no matter where he’s at.”

“He brings out the best in me because he lets me be me,” he added.

Since the Chiefs drafted Mahomes, he’s won three Super Bowl MVP titles and become one of the highest-paid quarterbacks. There are very few teams who wouldn’t trade for the former Texas Tech star if they had the opportunity. There are also very few teams who wouldn’t take Andy Reid as their head coach, even if he’s pushing retirement age.
