Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards limped back to the locker room with an injury in the second quarter of Thursday’s game against the Golden State Warriors. He appeared to injure his ankle before the game headed into a timeout, and the TNT broadcast later had an update.

As Edwards came down following a layup attempt, Warriors forward Trayce Jackson-Davis appeared to come down on his ankle. Edwards sat on the court clutching his ankle, forcing Timberwolves coach Chris Finch to call a timeout, before heading back to the locker room with assistance.

It’s the latest notable injury in the Western Conference semifinal between the Timberwolves and Warriors. Steph Curry also suffered a hamstring injury in Game 1, meaning he missed Thursday’s second game of the series.

Edwards had seven points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals in 15 minutes prior to his departure. The Timberwolves were able to take full control through the first half, eventually taking a commanding 56-39 lead into the locker room.

Just before halftime, the TNT broadcast updated Edwards’ status for the rest of the game. Sideline reporter Lauren Jbara said he is questionable to return with an ankle sprain.

“Quick word on Anthony Edwards,” Jbara said with 5.7 seconds left. “Left ankle sprain. He is questionable to return to tonight’s game.”

After halftime, Edwards came out of the locker room and warmed up on the court. That indicated he’d look to give it a go despite tweaking the ankle.

Edwards has become one of the top names in the NBA as he continues to perform in key moments and make highlight-reel plays. During the regular season, he averaged 27.6 points, which ranked fourth in the league. He also added 5.7 rebounds and 4.5 steals per game while shooting 44.7% from the field.

Over the last year, Edwards has become known for taking down some of the sport’s biggest names in the playoffs. The Timberwolves knocked off Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns in the first round last season, and they defeated Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets in the second round. This year, Minnesota beat LeBron James, Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers to set up the matchup with the Warriors.

Edwards’ and Curry’s injuries add even more intrigue to a series filled with storylines. The most notable, of course, is the fact Jimmy Butler is facing his former team after joining the Warriors ahead of the NBA trade deadline. Golden State won the first game of the series, 99-88, despite losing Curry in the early going.
