The Indianapolis Colts’ inactive players list for their Week 6 game against the Arizona Cardinals is out. On it are a few surprises, which includes former first round pick and backup quarterback Anthony Richardson being listed as inactive.

Richardson was reportedly injured during warm-ups for the game, which accounts for his late scratch. At one point, the Colts’ starting quarterback and looked like the future of the franchise. Then, injuries and some poor play seemed to cost him the starting job, which he had a chance to win back this previous offseason. He didn’t. Instead, Daniel Jones won out.

Since Jones took over, he’s been able to spark the Colts’ offense and seemingly salvage his own career. Now, he’s solidified himself as the starting quarterback for the season, while Richardson has become the team’s backup.

Anthony Richardson has appeared in two games this season for the Colts. That’s included completing one of two pass attempts against the Las Vegas Raiders last week. That was a pass for nine yards. For his career, Richardson has played in 17 games with 15 starts over three seasons now. In that time, he’s completed 50.6 percent of passes for 2,400 yards and 11 touchdowns to 13 interceptions. He also has 634 rushing yards and another 10 touchdowns on the ground.

Per a report by James Boyd of The Athletic, Anthony Richardson suffered an eye injury during pregame. That injury was caused by some band work. It’s unclear exactly what the injury is, though, or how severe the eye injury is going to be.

With Anthony Richardson inactive, the Colts are going to make rookie Riley Leonard active for Sunday’s game. Leonard played at Notre Dame in 2024 and was at Duke before that during his college career. If anything happens to Jones, it will be Leonard who Indianapolis turns to.

The Colts offense will also be without wide receiver AD Mitchell. A former second round pick, he’s seen more limited playing time this season and has only started one game so far. However, he did notably fumble the ball out the back of the end zone in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Rams. They’d ultimately lose that game by a touchdown.

The Indianapolis Colts currently sit at 4-1 on the season. That’s good for a tie for first in the AFC South with the Jacksonville Jaguars. This week, they’ll host the Arizona Cardinals at 1:00 p.m. EST, who enter the game 2-3 this season.
