The last matchup came at the 2002 Holiday Bowl, which saw Kansas State edge the Sun Devils 34-27. The record book has to be turned back to 1989 to find the most recent meeting before that, which Arizona State won.
In fact, the Sun Devils won all five meetings the two teams played against each other between 1964 and 1989. All were contested during the regular season — and all were home games for Arizona State. Saturday will be the first time the Sun Devils will travel to Manhattan for a football game.
It will also be the second home game for the Wildcats since late September as they’ve played three true road games against Colorado, West Virginia and Houston in that time. They won two of those three games during that span and most recently were upset 24-19 by the Cougars in Houston.
Arizona State is 2-2 on the road this season, so home-field advantage may play a factor in aiding the Wildcats on Saturday.
