Arizona State, the reigning champions of the Big 12, will travel to Starkville in Week 2. Mississippi State will be their opponent in what should be a wild game on Saturday night.

According to BetMGM Sportsbook, the Big 12’s Sun Devils are 7-point favorite over the SEC’s host Bulldogs. Additionally, Arizona State and Mississippi State are both -110 odds on the money-line. The over-under has been set at 58.5 total points.

The Sun Devils and the Bulldogs have only faced off one other time, and it came last season. That one saw Mississippi State head to Mountain America Stadium in Tempe, where they fell by a touchdown to Arizona State.

It was an incredible performance by Cam Skattebo that led the way in that showdown. He carried the ball 33 times for 262 rushing yards. He also added three receptions for 35 yards.

But how did Arizona State score? Quarterback Sam Leavitt only completed 10 of his 20 pass attempts for 69 yards, but he added two rushing touchdowns to his resume. He accumulated 68 yards total on 11 rushes against the Bulldogs.

It may have seemed like an incredible performance from Arizona State, but it wasn’t guaranteed that they’d hold on to the win. They raced out to a 30-10 lead, but Mississippi State hung around. They scored 13 in the fourth quarter to make it a game, but they came up just short in the end.

Back at home hoping for some revenge, Jeff Lebby and company will certainly remember what happened last season in Tempe. We’re in for another battle, this time in Starkville, between these two squads, for sure.
