Arkansas outfielder Tavian Josenberger selected by Orioles in 2023 MLB Draft

The Baltimore Orioles selected Arkansas outfielder Tavian Josenberger with the 100th pick in the 2023 MLB Draft on Monday. Josenberger, who initially played two years for the Kansas Jayhawks, played all 52 games for the Razorbacks this season.
The Kansas City, Missouri native posted a perfect fielding percentage in center field with no errors in 2023 for the Hogs on their way to the Fayetteville Regional, which is where their postseason journey ended.
Over the plate this year, Josenberger posted a .286 AVG, .414 OBP and .490 slugging percentage.
As a freshman for the Jayhawks, Josenberger made the All-Big 12 Freshman team and earned an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention nod as well. He was second on the team that year with a .316 average, including eight doubles, four triples, one home run and 31 RBI. He racked up a 24-game hitting streak, which tied a Kansas record and tied for the 10th-longest hitting streak in Big 12 history. The 6-foot, 185-pound right-hander also led the team with 11 stolen bases in 2021.
As a sophomore, Josenberger started all 52 games at second base for the Jayhawks. He posted .276/.357/.386 with 13 doubles, two triples, two home runs, 23 RBI, 43 runs scored, 25 walks and 11 stolen bases. His 43 runs scored led the team.
For Arkansas this year, Josenberger had a career-high with 51 runs, 10 home runs, nine doubles and 33 RBI and 13 stolen bases.
More on the 2023 MLB Draft
The 2023 Major League Baseball Draft will begin during All-Star week, with the first two rounds getting underway at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 9. Rounds 3-10 will then begin at 2 p.m. ET on Monday, July 10, with rounds 11-20 starting at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday, July 11.
This year’s MLB Draft is a historic one, as a draft lottery was used to determine the order for the first time. The Washington Nationals, Pittsburgh Pirates and Oakland Athletics each had a 16.5% chance to receive the No. 1 overall pick. Ultimately, Pittsburgh won the right to have the first selection, with Washington finishing right behind them at No. 2. Oakland, however, fell all the way down to No. 6 overall.

While the MLB Draft is always unpredictable, the consensus is that this year’s top prospects both hail from LSU, who won the 2023 College World Series. Pitcher Paul Skenes and outfielder Dylan Crews headline this year’s class, which is a deep one.
Within the first ten rounds of the draft, each slot is assigned a certain value. Each team has a bonus pool that they are able to spend on these picks, and players will sign at, above or below their assigned slot value.
In rounds 11-20, there is no assigned slot value and MLB teams are free to spend up to $150,000 to sign their picks from the second half of the draft. If they exceed the $150,000 mark, they must deduct the added amount from their bonus pool.
Following the final day of the 2023 MLB Draft, selected players will have until August 1 to sign a contract.
