Ashton Jeanty reveals he was prank called over trade to Dallas Cowboys after NFL Draft

Former Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty revealed he was prank called during the 2025 NFL Draft last Thursday. Jeanty said the call came after the Las Vegas Raiders selected him No. 6 overall, informing him he was being traded to the Dallas Cowboys.
“I got prank called like after,” Jeanty told FanSided. “Some dude called me, and he was like, ‘Yeah, we just traded with the Raiders and you’re coming to the Cowboys.’ And I just hung up, bro.”
Jeanty sniffed it out right away. Even if the Cowboys wanted Jeanty, Las Vegas never gave them a chance. The Cowboys instead took Alabama guard Tyler Booker at No. 12 and addressed the running back position in the fifth round, taking Texas tailback Jaydon Blue.
Jeanty is just the latest top prospect to reveal he was prank called during the NFL Draft. Other players who were faked out by pranksters included Shedeur Sanders, Abdul Carter, Mason Graham, Tyler Warren and Kyle McCord. Sanders received a prank call from Jax Ulbrich, the 21-year-old son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich. The NFL fined the Falcons $250,000 and Jeff Ulbrich $100,000. The league is investigating the other series of calls.
Raiders take a big swing, take Ashton Jeanty No. 6 overall
Jeanty is the newest Raider and there’s a lot of excitement surrounding his future in silver and black. The 2024 season was a historic run for Jeanty, rushing for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns on 7.0 yards per carry. He was named a unanimous All-American, won the Maxwell Award and finished second in Heisman Trophy voting behind Colorado‘s Travis Hunter.

Jeanty helped Boise State clinch a spot in the College Football Playoff this past season. In the quarterfinal game against Penn State, Jeanty rushed for 104 yards on 30 carries in a 30-14 defeat. In his three years with the Broncos, Jeanty rushed for 4,769 yards and 50 touchdowns. He added 80 receptions for 862 yards and six scores. Raiders general manager John Spytek had no concerns about taking a running back that high in the draft.
“I just don’t know where we got to a place where we don’t feel like running backs are valued,” Spytek said. “We just saw Saquon Barkley change the Eagles in one year. And now, they had a great team around them, and it was adding an elite player.
“When you sit where we sit, the idea is to add elite players at any position. I don’t try to devalue any certain position.”
