In a big show of rage, Austin Dillon tossed his helmet onto the track at Tyler Reddick’s car after being wrecked at Pocono. After spinning out while racing three-wide, Dillon felt that the 45 car was the one to blame for his wreck. So, he took out his frustration with his helmet throw. Classic NASCAR payback.

After he came out of the Infield Care Center, Austin Dillon was still fed up with what happened. He acknowledged that Dale Jr. said on the NBC broadcast that he had moved down on Reddick. Still, he felt he kept his wheel straight.

When he was asked what he wanted to tell Reddick with his throw, he was honest.

“That I was mad. I don’t know,” Dillon said.

Then, he was asked if the throw was enough payback on Reddick. Well, it clearly wasn’t enough for Austin Dillon.

“No I just need to start wrecking some people,” he said. I’m sure that NASCAR is going to love that response in the wake of all of the fines and penalties this season.

I really think NASCAR is going to throw a penalty or a fine Austin Dillon’s way before this is all said and done. Helmet throws are definitely frowned upon by the folks that run the sport. Even if fans love to see the emotion.

Tyler Reddick and Austin Dillon are former RCR teammates. Before RCR landed Kyle Busch, Reddick had already signed to be with 23XI Racing in 2024. Childress cut him loose a year early and took Rowdy for the No. 8 instead.

Bad blood between Austin Dillon, Tyler Reddick?

You really have to wonder how much their former relationship as teammates and how it ended plays into this incident. In the grand scheme of things, it could have been any car besides the 45 and Austin Dillon probably does the same thing. Still, it is hard to not think about as you watch that replay over and over again.

Dillon is going to finish P34 in this race. However, he can find solace in the fact that the 45 of Reddick has been shaky today. The car looked fast and then didn’t and then did again. Things have just been back and forth all day long.

For Austin Dillon and his playoff hopes, it was always the plan to get a win. He just simply has not kept up in the points battle long enough. So, it might come down to Daytona once again. That will be just fine by Dillon who is used to winning on large, superspeedway tracks in the Cup Series.

Will we see a little bit of a feud break out? And do we see a more aggressive Austin Dillon in the final weeks of the regular season?
