Austin Green, Peterson Racing announce full-time NASCAR O'Reilly Series schedule

After a strong 2025 season, Austin Green is getting his chance in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series full-time next year. Peterson Racing is fielding the No. 87 car for he 2026 season, and Green is their driver.

Austin Green raced in the 87 car last year. Those races were for Jordan Anderson Racing. In 2026, it is Peterson who is fielding the car. The group will have a technical alliance with Richard Childress Racing and will, of course, use ECR engines.

The announcement was made earlier today. Green won the ARCA race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. His talents have really shined on road courses. The 24-year-old had top-10s at Mexico City, Chicago Street, Watkins Glen, and Portland International this year in the O’Reilly Series. He was P2 at the Charlotte Roval. Now, he’s going full-time!

Austin Green really is a great talent. He is the son of David Green, who is still around as a NASCAR official. His uncles, Jeff and Mark, also made starts in NASCAR to varying success. It really feels like he’s ready to take on this challenge, even if he has to work on his oval skills.

Getting a handle on the ovals is important. But then you look at that win at Charlotte in ARCA and it eases those concerns. Still, the results on the ovals in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series have been lackluster at best. Finding success at road courses will be key to keeping this team competitive elsewhere on the schedule.

Austin Green, Peterson Racing enter RCR sphere of influence

Richard Childress Racing might have gotten rid of its technical alliance with Kaulig Racing, but the sphere of influence for RCR has only grown larger. Multiple teams have announced new technical alliances with the championship organization.

Jesse Love is fresh off his championship. Austin Hill keeps winning on superspeedways. So, why is RCR letting so many other organizations in on their data and information? Well, those teams have to pay RCR for that information, a clear win for the team. They also get access to all of the other information from these alliance teams.

Viking Motorsports, Jordan Anderson Racing, and Peterson Racing are all aligned with RCR now. Viking is now a two-car team, JAR is going to be a two-to-three-car program as usual, and Peterson adds another team. So, each week, the RCR group will have an additional five to six cars on the track along with the No. 2 and No. 21? That’s a lot of ECR power, folks.

With how strong RCR is on the superspeedways, does this make them stronger? It definitely helps their road course program to have Austin Green in the mix. He is a legitimate talent, and these ovals are going to start making sense sooner than later.
