Australian skateboarder Arisa Trew asks parents for pet duck after winning Olympic gold: 'Because ducks are really cute'

Australia’s Arisa Trew may have captured the gold medal in the women’s skateboard park at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, but a different reward was on her mind afterwards.
According to the 14-year-old, her parents promised her she could get a pet duck if she won the event, so she went out and earned a score of 93.18, which was good enough for gold. Now, the quacking can begin for the Trew family.
“My parents promised me if I won the gold medal I could get a pet duck,” Trew said, following her victory, via Daily Mail. “Because they are really cute, then I can take it on walks and take it to the skate park.”
Evidently, Trew and her parents decided on a duck because it’d be easier to care for than a different, more common pet, such as a dog or a cat, due to her busy schedule of competing across the world.
“My parents wouldn’t let me get a dog or a cat because we are traveling so much right now,” the gold medalist added. “I feel like a duck might be a little bit easier. … It will just be in my yard and I’ll get a little pool thing for it.”

Moreover, the news of a forthcoming pet duck wasn’t the only surprise for Trew, as legendary skateboard Tony Hawk heaped some praise on the Australian following her victory.
“She absolutely deserved it,” Hawk said. “I think that she’s leading the way of what’s possible in skateboarding and women’s skateboarding.”
A gold medal, pet duck and a shoutout from Tony Hawk. We’d say that’s a pretty awesome Wednesday morning for Arisa Trew and her family, which will evidently grow by one when she returns home. We’re here for all the Trew family duck content in the future.
