Bills safety Damar Hamlin reacts to documentary following on-field cardiac arrest journey: 'Cried 90 times'

Damar Hamlin just shared his reaction to watching the documentary about his recovery from an on-field cardiac arrest. On X/Twitter, the Buffalo Bills safety wrote that he got emotional watching the project that was announced in 2023.

“Just watched the first final cut of my documentary.. cried 90 times,” Hamlin wrote. “Can’t wait for the world to see this thing!! Made so much progress in 2.5 years that it was humbling to relive some of the craziest moments of my life… wow.”

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the documentary is titled Did We Win, which references a question Hamlin asked from the hospital bed about the Bills’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals in January 2023. He was waking up from a medically induced sedation at the time.

Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest during the game, which was nationally televised on ESPN. The incident happened after Hamlin made a tackle, and first responders administered CPR and automated external defibrillation (AED) on the field. Hamlin was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, and the game was suspended before being called.

Did We Win is directed by Clay Tweel and produced by Skydance Sports and NFL Films. Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo. is another producer and spoke to Hollywood Reporter about the documentary.

“We’ve been with him every step of the way,” Flynn said in September 2023. “He just continues to beat the odds at every turn. Now we’ll stay with him as the season unfolds on a Super Bowl-caliber team, and we’ll go from there. Already, this movie continues to be Rocky and Rocky II over and over again.”

Flyn added: “NFL Films was filming him all through training camp, and he was miked up. Their audio is amazing and lets you really feel like you’re inside it.”

Hamlin returned to football in the fall of 2023 and played in five games. In 2024, the 27-year-old was a full-time starter and recorded 62 tackles, two interceptions and five passes defended in 14 regular-season games. Hamlin also played in three playoff games and notched 15 tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack.
