Bills' Shaq Lawson, Jordan Phillips say Eagles fan crossed 'line that shouldn't be crossed' in altercation
During the Buffalo Bills’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, there was an incident involving several Bills players confronting a group of Eagles fans.
Among those Bills who confronted the fans were Shaq Lawson and Jordan Phillips. After the game, both of them shared that they felt fans crossed a line that they shouldn’t have crossed as it relates to trash talk.
“Those of you who know me know that I’m all about the fans, and I have a lot of respect for the game I play and my opponents,” Lawson wrote on his private Instagram page, according to ESPN. “Before the game started yesterday, there was a fan behind our bench, who was making life threatening remarks towards us and our families.”
“We asked Philadelphia security to remove the fan, but he was allowed to stay for the entire game. Eventually, our emotions boiled over, and I made a mistake. For that, I apologize, but there are certain lines that should not be crossed.”
Jordan Phillips posted a similar story about what led to the confrontation with fans.
“I love the crowd I love rowdy fans it makes the game fun,” Phillips wrote. “But one thing I’m not going to tolerate is someone threatening me or my family. This is a line that shouldn’t be crossed.”
A major issue for the Bills players seemed to be that the fan was not removed by security. Both the NFL and officials at Lincoln Financial Field were reportedly made aware of the threats made by the fan.
Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott wasn’t aware of the issue at the time, but was later told about it and shared some thoughts on it with reporters.
“Obviously, a very unfortunate situation,” McDermott said. “I was brought into the loop on it this morning about the incident that took place during the game. It’s unfortunate that that would go on during a game, in particular. What I’m aware of is that people were asked to have the fan removed and nothing was done. So at the end of the day, that’s not for us to concern ourselves with at this point. It’s just unfortunate overall that that would be taking place during a game.”

Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Jason Kelce said that the NFL should punish Jordan Phillips for a hit he made on Cam Jurgens. This came on an offsides call where Phillips ran through Jurgens and landed hard on him.
“I think the one play was a quarterback sneak. And I think teams are really trying to stop that play. They talk about it all week. I’m sure they label it as some type of level of toughness to stop the play. I thought it was bullsh*t at the time, I really did, and I said so to the official on the field. I said, ‘Listen, I’ve been running that play a lot of years. I have seen people jump offsides.’ He made zero effort to stop after he jumped offsides. He purposefully tried to hurt Cam Jurgens and I thought it should have been a personal foul and I think he should be fined for that play,” Kelce said.
“I’m not gonna comment on the rest of the game. There were things happening with the fans. I don’t know what happened that got him that fired up. But I thought that play in particular was absolutely a disgrace that the NFL should not allow. I really do and I don’t know Jordan Phillips. He may be the best guy in the world, but that, in my opinion, the NFL needs to do something about because that shouldn’t be allowed in this game at this level.”
